Dr. Bertram Canagasingham

UROLOGIST

Dr. Bertram Canagasingham is an Australian trained senior Urological Surgeon with nearly 20 years experience practicing in the Penrith, Richmond and Windsor areas. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He trained in General Surgery in the UK and in Urology in Australia. He then undertook post-graduate training in Urological Surgery at the University of Wales Teaching Hospital in Cardiff, UK. Dr. Canagasingham has a special interest in Urological cancer surgery, lower urinary tract dysfunction including management of enlarged prostates (BPH), male and female urinary incontinence and voiding dysfunction. Dr. Canagasingham performs laparoscopic surgery for Kidney cancer and endoscopic surgery for Bladder cancer. He is very experienced in laser surgery for stones in the urinary tract and for enlarged prostates. He performs da Vinci robotic surgery for Prostate cancer and sling operations for post radical prostatectomy incontinence. He also performs vasectomy and scrotal surgery for testis cancer, hydrocoeles and epididymal cysts. Dr. Canagasingham has admitting rights at Nepeean Hospital, Nepean Private Hospital, Hawkesbury Hospital and Westmead Private Hospital and is available for consultation at the Macquarie Tows Specialist Centre. Dr. Sasi
Sasikaran

GERIATRICIAN

Dr Sasikaran is a Consultant Physician and Geriatrician. He holds the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He completed his advanced training at Westmead and Nepean hospitals. Dr Sasikaran has expertise in complex medical conditions, poly-pharmacy in the elderly, and management of dementia, osteoporosis, frailty, falls prevention and care in aged care facilities. Dr Sasikaran goes above and beyond in treating his patients with kindness and he holds the philosophy that our senior citizens and elderly population shouldn’t go out of pocket for their medical treatment. Dr Kumuthiny Kalaialagan

PAEDIATRICIAN

Dr Kumi is a qualified paediatrician with extensive experience ( > 20years) in general paediatrics and a strong interest in developmental and behavioural paediatrics. Dr. Keagan Werner Gibbings

VASCULAR SURGEON

Keagan Werner-Gibbings studied medicine at the University of Sydney, graduating with honours in 2010. He undertook completed his residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney before completing a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2013. Following this he was posted to Vascular Surgery training positions in Queensland and Melbourne before completing his final year of training at Concord Hospital. After obtaining his fellowship in Vascular Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, he travelled to the UK for further specialist training. He was the Senior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, undertaking sub-specialty training in venous disease and complex aortic endografting. On return he has taken a public appointment as a Vascular Surgery Consultant at Nepean and Blue Mountain Hospitals. As well as Strathfield Private, he operates at the Mater in North Sydney and Nepean Private Hospitals. He consults in his private rooms in Dee Why, Chatswood and Penrith. His practise has a particular interest in the management of all forms of venous disease, complex aortic pathology and diabetic foot disease. Dr Senarath Edirimanne

BREAST & ENDOCRINE SURGEON

A Prof Senarath Edirimanne is an Academic Specialist Breast (Oncoplastic) and Endocrine (Thyroid, Parathyroid and Adrenal) and General Surgeon who has been providing care for patients in Nepean, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and North- West Sydney regions since 2011. Philosophy To provide personalized, comprehensive and professional multidisciplinary care for breast, endocrine and general surgical patients. Education and Training A Prof Edirimanne obtained his undergraduate medical qualifications with honours from Flinders University Adelaide. He completed his Specialist General Surgical Fellowship at Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2007. There after he undertook further three years of subspecialist training at Breast and Endocrine Unit of Christchurch Hospital, Endocrine Surgical Units of Sir Charles Gairdner and Freemantle Hospitals of Perth and Westmead Breast Cancer Institute (BCI). At Westmead BCI he had training in oncoplastic breast surgery and immediate breast reconstruction techniques, before commencing his work as a consultant specialist breast and endocrine surgeon in 2011. Dr. Edirimanne regularly attends and presents in national and international breast and endocrine surgical conferences and workshops. He also regularly attends breast oncoplastic and reconstructive courses and workshops in Australia Milan, Paris and UK. Practice A Prof Edirimanne consults patients in Kingswood (Nepean), Richmond, Bella Vista (Norwest) and Wahroonga (SAN). He operates at Nepean Public, Nepean Private, Norwest private, Sydney Adventist (SAN) and Blue Mountains District Hospitals. He is a member of scientific advisory committee of Nepean Blue Mountains Local health district. He is involved in breast and endocrine surgical curriculum review, review of national breast cancer management guidelines and a reviewer of international scientific journals. Dr Khin Thu

GERIATRICIAN

Dr Khin Thu is a Specialist Geriatrician and General Physician, completed the dual training Fellowships of Royal Australian College of Physician (FRACP) in geriatric medicine and acute general medicine. She is currently completing Master of Medical Science in perioperative medicine, and has interest in managing complex multiple comorbidities, perioperative care of older patients, dementia and care of older patients in residential aged care facilities. Dr Pijush Sarker

PALLIATIVE CARE SPECIALIST

Dr Pijush Sarker is a highly experienced palliative care specialist with international credentials and a deep commitment to holistic, compassionate care. He holds specialist qualifications from the UK, Singapore, and Australia, and is currently a Staff Specialist at both Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and Concord Repatriation General Hospital in NSW. With a career spanning over 15 years, Dr Sarker brings a wealth of clinical expertise in managing complex palliative cases across hospital, community, and outpatient settings. His professional interests include managing psychoexistential distress, enhancing quality of life in serious illness, and supporting patients and families through meaningful advance care planning. At Macquarie Towns Specialist Centre, Dr Sarker will run a monthly Palliative Care Clinic on the last Wednesday of each month from 1–5pm. His clinic aims to: Manage distressing symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, and fatigue Ensure the best possible quality of life for patients with serious or terminal illnesses Address psychological, emotional, and existential distress Facilitate compassionate and personalised advance care planning conversations Dr Sarker is also actively involved in medical education and has presented internationally on palliative care innovations, including the use of teleconferencing for remote learning and strategies to support healthcare teams. He is a co-author of the book chapter “Ethics, Consent and Communication Challenges” in Interventional Radiology in Palliative Care (Springer, 2021). Our 
Story

Our purpose built specialist medical centre was constructed in 1990 and was named Macquarie Towns Specialist Centre (MTSC) because of the heritage significance of the area.

Starting with a small group of specialists the medical centre has continually grown to fulfil the needs of the Hawkesbury / Richmond region, delivering various services in a kind, compassionate and effective manner. The MTSC also has on premise parking for convenience and a ramp for easy wheelchair access and also having off street parkings.

Demographics

The Hawkesbury region is the largest in the State with a population fast approaching 100,000. In fact, the Hawkesbury region stretches from the gateway of the Hawkesbury River around Brooklyn, and all the way through the highlands to the foot of the Blue Mountains. As such, the Macquarie Towns Specialist Centre is always looking to expand its services based on the growing needs of the community.
